Light Fixtures

Depending on your source of shop light fixtures, they may or may not require assembly, and the method of assembly may vary from that shown below.  The most important thing to remember is that the attachment points normally provided for stoplights lie near the ends of the fixture, and you will need to change the attachment points to  locations 6" from each end, to allow the attachment chains to hang vertically from the stand to the light.  This is shown below.  After measurement and marking of the new attachment point, drill and cut the new hole and slot to the same dimensions as the original.  Take care, since the sheet metal is frequently sharp, and the burrs from drilling and cutting the new holes and slots are always sharp.  Carefully remove all metal flakes from the light fixture and deburr the new attachment points.

Next, attach the chains to the fixture with the "S" hooks provided by the light manufacturer, and, if necessary, the 1 1/2" "S" hooks you will use to attach the chains to the stand.  The "S" hook to the light should be crimped at each end to ensure that the chain cannot easily be removed from the light.  Crimping of the large "S" hooks is not necessary nor desirable, since they will be used to control the height of the light fixtures over the seedlings.  Complete this process for all six light fixtures, assemble them according the the manufacturer's instructions, and set them aside in their boxes.
