Minimac Wildflower Bog

(submitted by Meadowview member Jim Robinson)

Minimac Wildflower Bog is a private preserve in Baldwin County, Alabama.  The owners dammed a ravine area to form a recreational pond. They then removed the overgrowth from the seepy slope on one side and burned the slope.  This resulted in the suppressed Sarracenia leucophylla springing to life and forming a beautiful savanna.  Other wildflowers abound in this recovered bog area. The owners were so impressed that they continued annual burns and opened the bog for tours.  The property is located 5 miles east of Fairhope, AL on hwy. 9. Visits can be arranged (reservations required) April - Sept. by calling the MacCartee's at (251) 945-6157 or writing to Minimac Wildflower Bog, 13199 MacCartee Ln., Silverhill, AL 36576
